About Minneapolis

Top city on “USA Today Fun List” -- The Minneapolis/St. Paul area is home to 2 million residents. During the early 20th century Minneapolis was known as the “Milling Capital of the World”.  Agriculture is still quite important to Minneapolis. Cargill, the largest private company in the world, maintains their headquarters in the city and barges still transport much of Minnesota’s exported grain down the Mississippi River, which flows though downtown Minneapolis.

The weather in early September is generally quite pleasant with average daily temperatures near 70-80 degrees and clear skies. Over half of Minnesota is farmland (79,000 farms). There are also over 10,000 lakes in Minnesota, set against the backdrop of a pristine natural environment.

Mall of America

Located next door to the Minneapolis Airport Marriott, (site of the Midwest Specialty Grains Conference) the Mall of America is the nation's largest retail and entertainment complex. The 4.2 million square foot complex is home to more than 520 world-class shops; Camp Snoopy, the nation's largest indoor family theme park; Underwater Adventures, a 1.2 million gallon walkthrough aquarium; a 14 screen movie theater and more. The Mall opened in August of 1992 and is located in Bloomington, Minn., just minutes from downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul. www.mallofamerica.com
